Belknap grew up in Damariscotta. The parents of her were David and Louise Belknap. She attended Lincoln Academy located in Newcastle Maine. While attending Middlebury College in Vermont she discovered an interest in acting. Her next stop was the American Conservatory Theater where she obtained a masters degree in Fine Arts.
